Lee One to Watch for Rimington Trophy
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Redshirt senior Matt Lee was among those players selected to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy honoring the nation’s top center, it was announced Friday.
Lee, who spent the first four seasons of his career at UCF, was rated as the third-highest center nationally by Pro Football Focus in 2022. He earned 90.6 pass-blocking grade and 80.6 run-blocking grade in his final season with Knights. Lee, a three-year starter for UCF, earned all-AAC accolades as a freshman in 2020 and a sophomore in 2021.
Lee is the fourth Hurricane to earn a major preseason honor, joining Kam Kinchens (Nagurski Trophy, Wuerffel Trophy), Javion Cohen (Outland Trophy) and Andy Borregales (Lou Groza).
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the award has raised over $5 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation.
Dave Rimington, the award’s namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy’s only two-time winner as the nation’s finest college interior lineman.
