Miami Earns Four Wins at the Spartan Invitational
LAINGSBURG, Mich. — The University of Miami rowing team competed at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State on Saturday.
The race took place on Lake Ovid in Sleepy Hollow State Park. The competition included Temple, Tulsa, and Michigan State.
The Hurricanes sent five boats – 1v8, 2v8, 1v4, 2v4, and 3v8 – on the water.
The 1v8 and 2v8 boats both took home two first-place wins, over Tulsa and Michigan State.
The 2v8 boat (6:43.84) earned the first win of the morning, over five seconds ahead of Michigan State (6:49.5).
Miami’s 1v8 boat also finished over five seconds ahead of Michigan State (6:47.0), crossing the finish line with a time of 6:41.81.
In the afternoon, the 2v8 added its second win, edging Tulsa with a final time of 6:55.1.
In Miami’s final race of the day, the 1v8 boat (6:36.1) had a close race and best finish time for the Hurricanes, placing first over Tulsa (6:36.8).
Miami proved to have the strongest team across the NCAA boat classes at the invitational.
Miami will be heading to Raleigh, N.C., for the Lake Wheeler Invitational, co-sponsored by UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University on Apr. 21.
