Miami Takes Home Two Silver Medals at Sunshine State Invite
SARASOTA, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing team earned three spots in the grand finals this weekend at the 2023 Sunshine State Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park.
The Hurricanes were represented by four boats – 1V8, 2V8, 1V4, and 2V4, in a field of 14 teams.
The competitors included: Stetson University, University of Central Florida, Michigan State, University of Wisconsin, University of North Carolina, West Virginia University, Old Dominion University, Jacksonville University, University of Tulsa, University of Kansas, Drexel University, Kansas State University, and University of Louisville.
During the preliminary heat race on Friday, three Miami boats qualified for the grand final races – 1V8, 2V8, and 1V4.
The Miami 1V8 boat placed first in its heat race with a time of 6:33.40 to advance to the grand final. On Saturday, the 1V8 boat earned a silver medal, crossing the finish line with a time of 6:31.15, which was Miami’s best showing of the weekend.
The Hurricanes’ brought home an additional silver medal in the 2V8 grand final, with a time of 6:36.33. The 1V4 placed eighth in the grand final, crossing the finish line with a time of 7:37.68.
In the petite final, the 2V4 placed third, with a final time of 8:00.80, over 30 seconds ahead of fourth-place WVU.
The Hurricanes will return to action on April 15 at the Michigan State Invite, hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.
