Deem Welcomes Martin to Track and Field Staff

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Jason Martin has joined the Miami Hurricanes track & field program as an assistant coach, track & field director Amy Deem announced Wednesday.

Martin most recently served as assistant coach for the Akron Zips, focusing primarily on the jumpers. During his time in Akron, the Zips won two women’s conference titles and set three school records.

Martin will assist with both jumpers and sprinters under Deem for the Hurricanes.

“I’m excited to welcome Coach Martin to our Hurricanes track & field family,” Deem said. “Coach Martin’s high energy and acumen on the recruiting trail, coupled with his experience coaching both sprinters and jumps, will elevate our program in a big way. He has already made an impact in the short time he has been here, and I know he will continue to do so.”

Prior to his time with the Zips, Martin served for two years as coach at Barton County Community College. While there, he helped lead the team to a national championship and coached nine individual national champions, 25 All-Americans and 35 national championship qualifiers.

“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to work under Coach Deem and alongside some of the best coaches in the country,” Martin said. “The Hurricanes have a great history throughout years in track and field, and I am looking to do my part in helping continue it. It is definitely an honor being able to coach at Miami and wear the ‘U.’

Martin has also spent time coaching at Highland Community College (2018-19), the University of Missouri-Kansas City (2016-18) and Coffeyville Community College (2015-16).

Martin graduated from UMKC in 2015, where he competed for the Kangaroos track and field program all four years. He went ton to earn his master’s degree from UMKC in 2018.
