He'll need some time to become a complete edge defender, but he is going to get to the quarterback in a hurry.”

“Rousseau is a tall, long and rangy defender. He aligned all over the front in Miami's scheme and was extremely productive in 2019 despite having limited experience on the defensive line (he played safety and wide receiver in high school). He lacks an elite get-off as a pass rusher, but his combination of quick hands, length and instincts leads to sacks and pressures in bunches. He has an effective swipe/rip move and he can close/finish. He didn't show much power early in the '19 season, but he got better every week. By the end of the season, he flashed the ability to convert speed to power (see: Duke game)…his effort is excellent. Overall, Rousseau is still developing, but he has found a way to post elite production while learning on the job. His best football is ahead of him.”

Bills Add Rousseau in First Round

University of Miami defensive end Gregory Rousseau was selected with the 30th overall pick by the Buffalo Bills Thursday night in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Rousseau, who opted out of the 2020 season, had a breakout season in his first year as a starter in 2019. The South Florida native saw action in all 13 games and made seven starts en route to ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

“I knew the Patriots and Bill Belichick and their special teams coordinator were there…When coach Belichick came in, I introduced myself, said hello and then continued with my routine,” Borregales said. “I kind of had to block everything out. It can’t matter who is watching. I was just out there having fun and kicking the ball and making them through the uprights.

“At the end of the day, you can’t show you’re nervous or you have jitters or anything like that. You just have to go out there and perform.”
