This will be the inaugural meeting between the Hurricanes and Bulldogs, marking the first and only new opponent Miami will play this season.
The Hurricanes are coming off a thrilling 81-79 victory Dec. 2 over Illinois at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill., in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Miami led by as many as 27 points in the first half, during which it shot 66.7 percent and, at one point, made 18-of-21 shots in a span of 14:02.
Junior guard Chris Lykes led all scorers with a career-high-tying 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting, while senior guard Dejan Vasiljevic notched 20 points and went 6-of-9 from 3-point range. Redshirt junior guard Kameron McGusty totaled 13 points and redshirt junior forward Sam Waardenburg notched a season-best 12.
Alabama A&M enters Saturday’s matchup at 2-5 (0-0 SWAC) on the season after winning its last two contests. The Bulldogs are led in both points (14.3) and rebounds (5.6) per game by freshman guard Cameron Alford.
Following a 5-27 (4-14) campaign a year ago, Alabama A&M was picked to finish eighth in the SWAC preseason poll.
After playing the Bulldogs, Miami heads to Brooklyn, N.Y., where it will face Temple Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. at the Barclays Center, live on ESPNU.
