In the lone prior matchup between the Hurricanes and Bobcats, Miami registered an 80-66 home victory on Dec. 29, 1999, its final outing before the turn of the millennium. Jim Larrañaga, in his 36th year as a head coach and ninth season in Coral Gables, has never before directed a team in a game against Quinnipiac.
The Hurricanes notched a 79-70 triumph Tuesday night against UCF at Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Fla. Redshirt junior Kameron McGusty paced all players in points (17) and rebounds (10), notching a career high in boards to record his first collegiate double-double.
Senior guard Dejan Vasiljevic scored 16 points against the Knights to surpass 900 in his career, while freshman guard Harlond Beverly posted 15 on 6-of-11 shooting and junior guard Chris Lykes added 11.
Quinnipiac is 0-1 thus far in 2019-20, dropping a narrow 70-68 decision Wednesday night at Brown, despite 23 points from redshirt freshman guard Matt Balanc. Junior guard Rich Kelly led the team in assists last season at 4.5 per game and is also the top returner in scoring after averaging 13.2 points per outing a year ago.
The Bobcats posted a 16-15 (11-7) record during the 2018-19 campaign and were picked to finish third in the MAAC in this year’s preseason poll.
After taking on the Bobcats in its final home game for four weeks, Miami will head to the Charleston Classic, where it plays Missouri State Nov. 21 at 11:30 a.m. at TD Arena, live on ESPN2 or ESPNU, in its first of three outings in Charleston, S.C.
