CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team is set for a South Florida showdown in its non-conference opener.
Miami (0-1, 0-1 ACC) will meet Florida Atlantic Friday at 7 p.m. at the Watsco Center, with head coach Jim Larrañaga seeking his 100th home win in nine seasons at the helm of the Hurricanes.
Friday’s affair will be televised live on RSN—that is FOX Sports Sun locally—and FOX Sports GO, with Eric Collins and Brian Oliver on the call. It can also be seen on WatchESPN, subject to blackout, HERE. Joe Zagacki and Danny Rabinowitz will do the radio broadcast on 560 The Joe WQAM HERE, while action can also be heard on WVUM 90.5 FM HERE. Live stats for the contest will be available HERE.
Miami enters the game with a 23-1 all-time record against Florida Atlantic, its most wins against any foe without multiple losses. The Hurricanes have only defeated eight teams, including just five at the Division I level, more than the Owls. Most recently, Miami logged a 75-55 home victory last season on Dec. 22, 2018.
The Hurricanes are coming off an 87-74 defeat against fifth-ranked Louisville Tuesday night at the Watsco Center in the season opener, the first one in program history against a league foe. Junior guard Chris Lykes paced Miami with 18 points, while senior guard Dejan Vasiljevic logged 16 and eclipsed 200 made 3-pointers in his career. Redshirt junior guard Kameron McGusty posted 12 points in his Miami debut.
Florida Atlantic is 1-0 on the season after defeating Flagler, 92-81, Tuesday night in Boca Raton, Fla. The Owls are led by junior forward Jailyn Ingram, who topped the team in points (18.9) and rebounds (8.2) per game last year, but competed in just 10 games due to injury. The team finished 17-16 (8-10 C-USA) in 2018-19 and was picked to finish ninth in the C-USA preseason poll this year.
Following its game against the Owls, Miami begins its road slate against another in-state foe, UCF, Nov. 12 at 9 p.m. at Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Fla., live on CBS Sports Network.
