CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team will start its 2019-20 campaign Wednesday evening.
The Hurricanes, under the direction of ninth-year head coach Jim Larrañaga, are set to face Flagler in an exhibition affair at 7 p.m. at the Watsco Center.
Action will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra HERE, with Kyle Sielaff and Megan Perry on the call. The radio broadcast on WVUM 90.5 FM is available HERE, while live stats can be found HERE.
The Hurricanes and Saints have never faced each other in a regular season game and it is the first time Miami will play Flagler in an exhibition contest during Larrañaga’s tenure.
Miami is coming off a 14-18 (5-13 ACC) campaign in 2018-19 during which it played the final 24 games with just seven recruited scholarship players. Prior to last season, the Hurricanes were one of just four teams to win 10-plus ACC games each year from 2014-15 through 2017-18.
Larrañaga’s team returns two of its five double-digit scorers in junior guard Chris Lykes and senior guard DJ Vasiljevic. Lykes, a Preseason Second Team All-ACC pick, is the second-leading returning scorer in the ACC at 16.2 points per game.
Miami also welcomes back redshirt junior guard Kameron McGusty and redshirt junior center Rodney Miller, Jr., to action after they did not play last year. Redshirt sophomore forward Deng Gak will also suit up after missing the final 24 games a season ago due to injury. A trio of Miami freshmen—guard Harlond Beverly, forward Anthony Walker and guard Isaiah Wong—are also set to see their first action at the Watsco Center.
Flagler, which finished 8-20 (5-17 PBC) during the 2018-19 season, is led by Gedi Juozapaitis. The sophomore guard/forward is the Saints’ leading returning scorer (14.3 points per game) and rebounder (8.2).
Following its matchup with Flagler, Miami begins the regular season Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. when it hosts fifth-ranked Louisville on ACC Network.
