Barnes Announces 2019 Soccer Slate
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head soccer coach Sarah Barnes released Monday the team’s schedule for the upcoming 2019 season.
The Hurricanes will play eight matches at Cobb Stadium in Barnes’ second season at the helm. In total, Miami’s schedule features seven matches against teams that reached the NCAA Championship, and four of which reached the Round of 16, including the defending national champion and runner-up.
“I’m excited for this year’s schedule,” Barnes said. “In non-conference play, we added in-state SEC rival, Florida, and a west coast opponent, San Diego State University. We’ll have the opportunity to enjoy new competition and every game provides us the chance to learn and grow in preparation for what is always a grueling ACC schedule.”
Miami begins the campaign with a 1,500-mile trek to the Lone Star State with a road match at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (Aug. 22, 8 p.m.) before squaring off against Fairleigh Dickinson in a neutral-site affair (Aug. 25, 12 p.m.).
Following the trip to Texas, the Hurricanes will return to Cobb Stadium for a quartet of home matches. Miami first meets Florida Atlantic (Aug. 29, 7 p.m.) and then battles Jacksonville (Sept. 1, 6 p.m.).
Miami will then welcome San Diego State (Sept. 7, 7 p.m.) to its field, before wrapping up the non-conference home slate against Stetson (Sept. 12, 7 p.m.).
Three days later, Barnes’ club will open its first of two three-match road trips, clashing with in-state rival Florida (Sept. 15, 7 p.m.). The meeting will mark the first between the two sides since the 2015 campaign.
After playing the Gators, Miami will open ACC action at Virginia Tech (Sept. 21, 7 p.m.) before heading to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to take on Boston College (Sept. 26, 7 p.m.).
The Hurricanes will then close out the month of September with a home contest against Pittsburgh (Sept. 29, 7 p.m.).
Six days later, Miami will host Virginia (Oct. 4, 8 p.m.) before hitting the road for its second three-match road stretch of the season.
The Canes will open the trip up north against Notre Dame (Oct. 10, 7 p.m.) and Syracuse (Oct. 13, 1 p.m.), before returning to the Sunshine State to take on the defending national champion, Florida State.
In the final regular season road contest, the Hurricanes will face the Seminoles (Oct. 18, 7 p.m.) in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Hurricanes return to Cobb Stadium for their lone three-match homestand, taking on Clemson (Oct. 24, 7 p.m.), Louisville (Oct. 27, noon) and the 2018 national runner-up, North Carolina, (Oct. 31, 7 p.m.) to cap the regular season.
