W. Tennis Heads to No. 12 NC State and No. 1 North Carolina
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will visit the Tar Heel State to play a pair of top-15 opponents this weekend.
No. 25 Miami (11-3, 4-2 ACC) first meets No. 12 NC State Friday at 3 p.m. at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. Live video for the match can be found HERE, while live stats will be accessible HERE.
The Hurricanes then make the short drive to Chapel Hill, N.C., where they take on top-ranked North Carolina Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Live stats for the contest will be available HERE.
Miami heads into the weekend with one nationally-ranked singles player in junior Estela Perez-Somarriba, who is second on the Oracle/ITA list. It is the top mark for a Hurricane since Audra Cohen capped the 2007 in the top position.
The Hurricanes are also one of eight teams with at least three ranked doubles duos, led by freshman Daevenia Achong and senior Daniella Roldan at No. 34. Achong also checks in at No. 43 with Perez-Somarriba, while Roldan reappears on the list at No. 72 alongside sophomore Ulyana Shirokova.
Miami is a perfect 16-0 all-time against NC State, including 7-0 in road matches. The Hurricanes, who are going to Raleigh for the first time since 2016, recorded a 5-2 home victory on March 18, 2018 in last season’s meeting.
NC State sports a 15-3 (5-1 ACC) ledger on the season and, like Miami, is riding a five-match winning streak.
The Wolfpack has three ranked singles players, with Anna Rogers at No. 31, Alana Smith at No. 70 and Adriana Reami at No. 116. NC State’s lone ranked doubles pair, Rogers and Smith, comes in at ninth nationally.
Miami owns a 14-16 all-time record versus North Carolina, including a 3-5 ledger on the road. The Hurricanes, also visiting Chapel Hill for the first time since 2016, dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to then-top-ranked North Carolina last season on March 16, 2018.
North Carolina has four ranked singles players, all of whom are in the top 25, with three in the top 10. Alexa Graham leads the group at third nationally, followed by Makenna Jones at fifth, Sara Daavettila at ninth and Cameron Morra at No. 25.
In doubles, the Tar Heels have two ranked pairs, each in the top 10. Jones and Morra place third, while Grahm and Jessie Aney check in at ninth.
After its trip to North Carolina, Miami returns home to take on Clemson March 29 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
