Dantzler Finishes Fourth in Shot Put at World U20s
TAMPERE, Finland – Selina Dantzler finished fourth overall in the women’s shot put final at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships Wednesday morning.
Dantzler’s first throw of the final was marked at 15.18m, putting her in fifth place to begin the event. The Germany native progressed in the next two throws with her second pushing her into fourth with a mark of 15.96m.
A throw of 16.16m on her fifth attempt cemented Dantzler’s fourth-place finish in the final. Dantzler threw a personal-best mark of 16.75m earlier this summer in her home country. Dantzler’s fourth-place finish adds to an impressive resume after winning the gold medal last year at the 2017 IAAF World U18 Championships.
The incoming freshman reached the final with a mark of 15.39m in Group A of the qualifying round, finishing seventh overall to earn one of the 12 qualifying spots in the final.
Fellow incoming freshman Molly Caudery is set to compete in Thursday’s women’s pole vault final scheduled for 11:20 a.m. ET. Caudery was the first Cane to qualify for an event final after securing her spot with a mark of 4.20m on Tuesday. The Great Britain native enters Thursday’s final as the No. 1 U20 women’s pole vaulter.
