Get to Know U: Thomas Burns

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Get to Know U is a series that introduces the newest members of the Miami Hurricanes track and field and cross country programs. 
 
We take a deeper look at why Thomas Burns chose to attend the University of Miami after getting to know Samuel Fleischman last week.

Q&A: 
 
Q: What about Miami stood out to you during the recruiting process? 
A: During my recruiting process what really stood out to me was the atmosphere and how much of a family they were just as a team and a school. 
 
Q: What is the main reason you chose to attend Miami? 
A:  The main reason I chose Miami was because it felt like home, I felt like I was really wanted here and I could make a big impact on the track. 
 
Q: What’s is your favorite thing about Miami?  
A: My favorite thing about my Miami is just the people around the school. 
 
Q: When you were practicing with the team, what were some of the differences you noticed compared to high school practice?
A:  Practice is definitely harder. I’m used to doing hard workouts in high school, but college is a different kind of hard. 
 
Q: What are your goals for this year?
A: My goals for this year are to break the school record, win ACCs and place at Nationals. 
 
Q: What has been the biggest adjustment in terms of training and in terms of campus/social life? 
A: My biggest adjustment to the workouts is that I have to manage my breathing and control myself. 
 
Q: If you were not running cross country/track for the U, what sport would you play?
A: Football, easily. 
 
Q: What is your favorite food? What food do you not like at all? 
A: My favorite food is fried chicken, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and corn bread. The food I hate is seafood. 
 
Q: What is your all-time favorite movie? TV show? 
A: My favorite movie is Role Models and favorite tv show is Martin. 
 
Q: What was your most embarrassing “freshman” moment?
A:I don’t think I have an embarrassing moment..YET. 
 
Q: What do you think of the dining halls? 
A: The dining hall food is good especially Cane Zone…. CLUTCH
 
Q: What do you think of your classes so far?
A: My classes are easy so far.
