Introducing U: Tyler Speaks

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — In the latest edition of Introducing the U, 5-foot-7-inch goalkeeper Tyler Speaks took the time to explain to HurricaneSports.com how her first month at Miami, and what she has so far enjoyed the most.

Q: To start off, you have been at Miami for almost a month now. How has the experience been thus far?
A: It has been busier than I expected. But my classes have been interesting, and it has been good getting to know all the girls and to hang out with them.

Q: What has been the most enjoyable aspect?
A: Honestly, it is kind of interesting going into a new environment, and seeing how it plays out. Again hanging out with my teammates has been fun, as well as getting to know their personalities and characteristics.

Q: How would you describe your style as a soccer player?
A: I always thought of myself as a hard worker. I always try to overcome challenges and such. I would say I am a very respectful player, and I think I can look at things in a different way and compromise.

Q: What do you think you need to work on the most?
A: Coming into an [NCAA] Division I program, there are a lot more practices than usual. So I guess getting used to that environment and being able to accommodate. So flexibility would be a big one.

Q: What are you most excited about for your college career? Goals?
A: Just being able to be part of a team here I think is a really neat experience. Also I think being able to travel is going to be very fun. As for goals, just training wise right now I just want to work hard during training sessions and get fit to ultimately be where I want to be for the season.

Q: What made you decide Miami was the school for you?
A: A while ago I really wanted to study marine biology, and I knew that the Rosenstiel School [of Marine and Atmospheric Science] was really good here. So that was a big part of it. And also, when I visited the campus here, I fell in love with it. It has a really nice environment, and I have always loved the beach and warmer weather.
