Miami Moves Up to No. 42 in Oracle/ITA Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team moved up one spot to No. 42 in this week’s Oracle/ITA rankings.
The Hurricanes (12-8, 3-5 ACC) continued their ascent after becoming the first team to earn an away Atlantic Coast Conference victory at Virginia since April 7, 2006, knocking off the three-time defending national champion, 4-3, Friday afternoon. Miami now is the team to capture two straight road ACC wins in Charlottesville after a 4-3 triumph 12 years ago.
Miami is ranked for a third straight week for the first time since 2014. The Canes’ ranking is also the highest since the program was tabbed No. 39 in the nation on March 23, 2014.
The rankings also feature Miami’s first top-20 doubles tandem since Jan. 6, 2009, with senior Christian Langmo and freshman Adria Soriano climbing eight spots to check in at No. 18. The last Miami duo to break into the top 20 was formed by Daniel Vallverdu and Carl Sundberg, who were tabbed first overall in the spring preseason rankings.
Soriano and Langmo stayed in the singles rankings as well, checking in at No. 98 and No. 118 in the nation, respectively. Langmo has been featured in each of the four editions of the rankings since March 4, while Soriano is ranked for the second straight week and third overall this season.
Miami is one of 10 ranked ACC teams this week – most this season – with five of the Canes’ conference foes in the top 25. Top-ranked Wake Forest is followed by No. 8 North Carolina, No. 13 Florida State, No. 20 Duke and No. 23 NC State. No. 28 Notre Dame, No. 39 Louisville and No. 49 Virginia are ranked once again, while Virginia Tech returns to the top 50, checking in at No. 40 after two ranked victories last weekend.
Three of the Hurricanes’ four remaining regular-season opponents are amongst the ranked ACC teams, including Notre Dame (away), Duke (home) and North Carolina (home), respectively.
The Canes complete their regular-season road slate at Notre Dame Friday and at Boston College Sunday.
