Johnson, Tullis-Joyce Earn All-ACC Academic Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Two members of the University of Miami soccer team have garnered All-ACC Academic Team distinction, as announced Thursday by the conference.

Senior forward Ronnie Johnson and redshirt junior goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce were both recognized for the second year in a row.

They become the seventh and eighth players in program history to receive the honor multiple times, joining Gracie Lachowecki (2015-16), Brittney Macdonald (2007-09), Lauren McAdam (2006-07), Lauren Singer (2007-08), Brittney Steinbruch (2007-10) and Sheuneen Ta (2006-07).

A native of Oakville, Ont., Canada, Johnson is in her final semester at Miami and is set to graduate in May. Sporting an excellent 3.621 GPA, she is double-majoring in international finance & marketing and entrepreneurship. Johnson has made the Dean’s List (minimum 3.5 GPA) in six of her seven collegiate semesters and has been on the Provost’s Honor Roll (min. 3.75) three times.

One of Miami’s captains in 2017, Johnson started all 16 matches and finished with four goals and three assists. She led the Hurricanes in goals, points (11), game-winning goals (two), shots (59) and shots on goal (23), plus ranked second in assists. Johnson, who ranked third in the ACC with 3.69 shots per outing, concluded her career third in program history in shots (152) and tied for sixth in game-winners (five).

Tullis-Joyce, who has a year of eligibility left, is also set to graduate in May after double-majoring in marine science and biology. The Shoreham, N.Y., native has a dazzling 3.775 GPA in her collegiate career and is a member of the Iron Arrow Honor Society. Tullis-Joyce has notched a perfect 4.0 GPA in two of her seven semesters and made the Provost’s Honor Roll in three others.

Last season, Tullis-Joyce played every minute of all 16 matches and logged 84 saves, ninth-most in a single season in program history. She conceded just 22 goals and had a 1.38 goals against average, ranking fourth and seventh, respectively, on Miami’s single-season list. Tullis-Joyce placed second in the ACC in saves per game (5.25), as well as sixth in save percentage (.792).
