CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami men’s basketball team visits Florida State at 4 p.m. Saturday in an ACC game at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center in Tallahassee. The ACC Network has the broadcast, including WBFS My TV 33 in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area. WQAM 560-AM has the local radio broadcast, while the game also streams online through the WatchESPN app (subject to blackout) and on TheACC.com.
Ranked No. 24 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, the Hurricanes (15-4, 4-3 ACC) have won their last two games and are coming off a 78-75 overtime win over Louisville on Wednesday evening in Coral Gables. Freshman Lonnie Walker IV had a big night with 25 points, including an acrobatic layup with four seconds left in regulation to tie the game and send the game to an extra session.
Miami is 5-2 in true road games this season and 8-3 away from home. FSU (15-5, 4-4) is 9-1 on its home floor this season.
Miami is averaging 74.2 points per game while holding opponents to 63.7 points per game. The Canes also are limiting their foes to 30.0 percent shooting from 3-point range, which is second lowest in the ACC.
Coming off a double-double against Louisville, Dewan Huell leads Miami in scoring at 13.8 points per game and also is grabbing 6.9 rebounds per game. Bruce Brown Jr. is averaging 11.3 points per game as well as a team-high 7.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Walker is averaging 10.2 points per game and has stepped up of late, averaging 18.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in the last four contests.
Florida State is receiving votes in both polls and is coming off back-to-back wins over Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. The Seminoles are averaging 84.7 points per game and giving up 72.0 per contest. Terance Mann leads the team in scoring (16.1) and rebounding (6.2), while Braian Angola is scoring 14.6 points per game. Phil Cofer is averaging 12.5 points per game.
Miami trails the series with Florida State, 45-35, and is 8-29 all-time in Tallahassee. Three of the Hurricanes’ wins at FSU have come under Jim Larrañaga. Miami prevailed, 80-74, on Jan. 7 at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables. Bruce Brown Jr. scored a season-high 23 points and Dewan Huell had 20 points and eight rebounds for the Hurricanes, who took the lead for good in the early minutes and made 13 of their first 14 shots. Chris Lykes scored a season-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Miami comes back home Wednesday (Jan. 31) for a 7 p.m. game against Pitt at the sold-out Watsco Center. The ACC’s Regional Sports Networks have the television broadcast.
