CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 18/19 Miami men’s basketball team plays its second straight game against a ranked opponent Saturday when it travels to No. 19/17 Clemson for a 3 p.m. ACC game at Littlejohn Coliseum. ESPNU will televise the game, while WQAM 560-AM will air the radio broadcast. The game also will stream online through the WatchESPN app.
Miami (13-2, 2-1 ACC) is ranked No. 18 in the Associated Press Poll and No. 19 in the USA Today Coaches Poll this week and is 7-2 away from home this year, including 4-1 in true road games. Clemson is No. 19 in the AP Poll and No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and holds a 9-0 mark on its home floor this season.
Coming off a 80-74 win over then-No. 24 Florida State last Sunday, Miami is averaging 73.8 points per game while its defense is limiting its opponents to 59.9 points per game. UM ranks third nationally in scoring defense while holding its foes to 36.9 percent shooting from the field, which is fourth-best nationally, and 26.5 percent shooting from 3-point range, which is best in the ACC and third-lowest nationally.
Center Dewan Huell leads Miami in scoring at 13.9 points per game and also is grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game. He has scored in double figures in 12 of Miami’s 15 games. Guard Bruce Brown Jr. is averaging 11.9 points per game, as well as a team-high 7.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
Clemson (14-2, 3-1) suffered a tough loss Thursday evening, falling 78-77 at North Carolina State. The Tigers have five players averaging in double-figure scoring, led by Marcquise Reed at 15.8 points per game. Donte Grantham is averaging 14.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Clemson is averaging 77.8 points per game and allowing 64.4.
Clemson leads the all-time series with Miami, 13-11, including a 7-2 edge at home. Miami won the teams’ lone meeting last season, 71-65, on Feb. 18, 2017, at the Watsco Center.
Following the Clemson game, Miami has a quick turnaround, playing No. 7/6 Duke at 7 p.m. Monday at the sold-out Watsco Center. ESPN will televise the game.
