CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 11 Miami men’s basketball team hits the road for the first time in the 2017-18 season on Wednesday when it takes on La Salle in a neutral-site contest at Santander Arena in Reading, Pa. Game time is 6 p.m., and WINZ 940-AM has the radio broadcast.

The game serves as a homecoming for Miami freshman guard Lonnie Walker IV, a native of Reading who led Reading High School to its first state championship earlier this year. It also marks the return of senior guard Ja’Quan Newton to his home state; the Philadelphia native went to Neumann-Goretti High School.

The Hurricanes (3-0) remained at No. 11 in the latest Associated Press Poll this week and also moved up to No. 11 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll. Miami has rolled through its first three opponents, winning by an average of 32.3 points per game. UM has put at least five players in double figures in scoring in each of its first three games.

Four players are averaging 10 points or more through the first three games. Dewan Huell and Ja’Quan Newton have reached double figures in each of the first three contests, with Newton leading the team at 14 points per game. Eight Miami players are averaging at least 7.7 points per game, while the Hurricanes are shooting 54.4 percent as a team (14th nationally).

Miami’s defense has come out of the gates strong, limiting its opponents to 53 points per game and 35.1 percent shooting. Both numbers are best in the ACC, and the 53 points per game ranks seventh best nationally. The Hurricanes also are holding their opponents to 28.3 percent shooting from 3-point range.

La Salle (3-2) dropped both of its games in the Naismith Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament last weekend in Uncasville, Conn., falling to No. 20 Northwestern (82-74) and Boston College (82-61). B.J. Johnson is averaging a team-leading 22.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, while Pookie Powell is scoring 13.8 points per game.

Miami and La Salle are playing for the fourth time in the last five seasons. The Hurricanes won each of the previous three meetings in that span, including a 95-49 victory over the Explorers on Dec. 22, 2015, at The Palestra. La Salle holds a 9-7 edge in the all-time series, including taking nine of the programs’ 13 games from 1951-70.

Miami returns home to the Watsco Center Saturday for a 4 p.m. game with North Florida.
