Davon Reed Graduates from Miami
On Friday, University of Miami senior Davon Reed will conclude his journey at The U, with commencement ceremonies at the Watsco Center. HurricaneSports.com caught up with the New Jersey native prior to his graduation to chat about his time as a Hurricane and what his future holds.
This summer or fall, I plan to be working my hardest to fulfill my dreams of playing in the NBA. I will be working tirelessly to not only make a roster, but to stay on one while continuing to improve on my game.
Playing for the Hurricane basketball team was an experience that I will never forget. Playing here provided me so many opportunities. I was able to learn and grow as a player and a man while making lifelong friendships. I can honestly say that I went out every night and competed to represent this program to the best of my ability.
In four years at Miami I was not only able to live my dream of playing college basketball at the highest level, but I was also a part of so many historic moments. I will forever be grateful for that.
Some of my best memories of my time at Miami were going to Spain, winning the Puerto Rico tournament, playing in the NIT Finals, beating Duke, Virginia, Carolina (all while on the road), making the Sweet 16, making the NCAA again, being honored with a standing ovation during senior night.
My favorite professor(s) at Miami were Professor Windy Dees, Professor Tywan Martin, Professor Ian Sharf and Professor Kirsten Schwarz.
Playing basketball for Coach L at Miami has impacted me way more than anyone can even imagine. I got way more than I signed up for. I knew when Coach L was recruiting me that he was a great coach, but you really don’t get a chance to see how great he is until you’re around him every day. He has taught myself and my teammates about the game in ways that I would have never even looked at basketball before. He gave me an opportunity to become a better player and allowed me to go out and compete against the best players and in the best conference in the country. Coach L has also been like a father figure to me and my teammates with his countless stories, sayings and philosophies. I will always be grateful for Coach L being a great coach and mentor, but more importantly for being an even better person.
In five years I hope to be happily playing in the NBA with a great professional career and hopefully beginning to start a family.
