@CanesWTennis Faces No. 18 Duke in Coral Gables

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team will play its third conference match against a top-20 opponent in a span of six days Sunday.

No. 29 Miami hosts No. 18 Duke at noon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Blue Devils will be the Hurricanes’ sixth top-20 foe in the first 11 matches of the year.

The Hurricanes are 12-14 all-time against the Blue Devils, including 6-4 at home. In the most recent matchup, then-ninth-ranked Duke registered a narrow 4-3 home victory on Feb. 28, 2016.

Miami (4-6, 3-2 ACC) features two players who are in the ITA’s national singles rankings. Junior Sinead Lohan places seventh and freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba, who is coming off the first top-five win of her career, is in the No. 66 spot.

Duke enters Sunday’s contest with an 8-3 (2-0 ACC) mark on the year and has won four in a row after dropping three straight. The Blue Devils have a quartet of nationally-ranked singles players: No. 23 Mebile Chi, No. 42 Chalena Scholl, No. 79 Kaitlyn McCarthy and No. 90 Samantha Harris.

Chi and McCarthy form the No. 34 doubles pair in the country, while McCarthy also pairs with Scholl in the No. 40 spot.
