Miami Enters Both National Polls at No. 25
CORAL GABLES, Fla. ā After receiving votes in at least one poll each of the first 16 weeks, the University of Miami menās basketball team (20-8, 10-6 ACC) entered the national rankings for the first time in the 2016-17 season at No. 25 in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Poll today.
The Hurricanes received as many as 48 votes in the preseason AP poll and 37 votes in the Nov. 21 (Week 3) Coaches poll, but never cracked the top 25 until the 17th week.
Miami was last ranked in the final poll of the 2016-17 campaign, tying for 10th in the AP and eighth in the coaches poll. Miami has been ranked in four of Coach Jim LarraƱagaās six seasons at the U, topping out at No. 2 in both polls on Feb. 18, 2013.
As a ranked team under Coach L, Miami is 42-16 overall and 1-0 in overtime games. UM is 24-10 against ACC opponents in Coach Lās six seasons, including a 16-2 mark at home, and 8-8 record on the road.
Miami faces Virginia Tech tonight at 9 p.m. in Blacksburg, Va., on ESPN2ās Big Monday. The Hokies are receiving two votes in the AP poll. When ranked under Coach L and playing Virginia Tech, the Canes are 4-1 overall, including 1-1 at VT, 2-0 at home and 1-0 at the ACC Tournament.
