The Series – Miami vs. Clemson
After losing five straight in the series from 2008 to 2011, Miami has won four of the last six matchups with Clemson, all of which have come with Coach L at the helm.
The Hurricanes have won their last three home matchups with Clemson and are 6-3 all-time at home against the Tigers.
Davon Reed finished with a team-high 17 points and Kamari Murphy finished with seven points and six rebounds in Miami’s 76-65 loss to Clemson last season.
Tonye Jekiri grabbed 17 rebounds in Miami’s win over Clemson on February 8, 2015. That set a record, then, for most rebounds by a player in an ACC game, which he tied again last season against Boston College.
The Hurricanes set a record for least points allowed in an ACC game back in 2006 when they held Clemson to 38 points in a 62-38 victory.

Canes’ Roster Depleted
Miami opened the 2016-17 campaign with just nine scholarship players, and against Georgia Tech, Larrañaga had expected just six to be available to play. After a right leg injury sustained in the game at Louisville, Dewan Huell didn’t practice until shootaround on game day. Fellow freshman Bruce Brown also didn’t practice until shootaround due to illness. Huell finished the game with his ACC-best 13 points while Brown played out of position at the point guard spot, tallying eight points and five assists in 37 minutes.
Ja’Quan Newton was also out against GT, as he is currently serving a three-game suspension for violating team rules. He will return to the court Feb. 25 vs. Duke.

Home Court Advantage
Miami has won 25 of its last 27 games at the Watsco Center, with a 12-2 mark this season, added to 13 straight victories in the 2015-16 campaign. In six seasons under Coach L, Miami is 75-22 overall at home, 40-7 in non-conference play at home and 36-15 in ACC action at home. In both 2012-13 and 2015-16, the Canes had just one loss overall at the Watsco Center.

Ranked Opponents Ahead for Miami
Three of Miami’s final five regular season games will be played against teams currently listed in national polls. The Canes, who are receiving votes in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, host No. 12/14 Duke (2/25) next weekend. UM faces two ranked teams on their respective home courts: No. 14/15 Virginia (2/20) and No. 17/18 Florida State (3/4).
Of Miami’s five remaining games, three are against teams ranked above the Canes in the current ACC standings: Florida State (9-4), Virginia (8-5) and Duke (9-4). One is against Virginia Tech (7-6), which is tied with Miami, and one is vs. Clemson (4-9), which is ranked lower in the ACC.

Miami Earns First Home Victory Over Georgia Tech
With the Feb. 15 win over Georgia Tech, Coach L and Miami have now defeated all 14 ACC schools at the Watsco Center. The Canes are now 1-2 against GT at home under Larrañaga.
In Larrañaga’s six seasons in the ACC, Miami has at least a .500 overall record against 11 league opponents. UM has a .500 record or better at home against 13 teams, and on the road against nine ACC squads. The Hurricanes have won a road game against all but three league opponents: Virginia (0-3), Wake Forest (0-3) and Louisville (0-2).

R33D from Downtown
Senior guard Davon Reed has knocked down 52 shots from long range in the past 17 games. He hit seven at NC State and five against both Duke and FAU. For the year, he is 65-155 (41.9%) from downtown, hitting multiple 3-pointers in 18 outings, including three-or-more 12 times.
Reed drained 7-of-10 shots from long range at NC State, setting his career high in threes made, on his way to a career-best 26 points. In the next game, he went 4-of-8 from distance against VT.
Reed has hit at least one three in every game this season (25 games). In 2011-12, Malcolm Grant tied Jack McClinton’s school record (set in 2008-09) of 35 straight games hitting a 3-point shot.

The ACC Gauntlet
Miami opened the 2016-17 conference slate with four of six games on the road and will end the season with three of four away from home, which includes road games at No. 14/15 Virginia and No. 17/18 Florida State, while playing No. 12/14 Duke at home.

Larrañaga Continues to Top Milestones
Against Georgia Tech, Larrañaga coached in his 200th game at Miami, after arriving in Coral Gables for the 2011-12 campaign. Coach L has passed many milestones this season, including winning his 600th career game (Jan. 14 at Pitt), coaching in his 1,000th career game (Feb. 1 vs. Florida State) and coaching Miami’s 1,000th program win (Dec. 28 vs. Columbia).

Reed Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team
Senior Davon Reed was one of five student-athletes named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Team and is now eligible for Academic All-America honors. The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
