@CanesTrack Wraps Up Tiger Paw Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Miami track and field program wrapped up competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational Saturday.

The Hurricanes, who were competing in their final meet before the ACC Indoor Championships, had several solid performances on the track and in the field events to close out their stay in Clemson.

Jaalen Jones finished ninth in the men’s 200m with a personal-best time of 21.45 seconds that improves his second-ranked time in school history. Breon Mullings (21.96, 18th) and Brandon Taylor (22.10, 22nd) gave Miami three finishers in the top 25.

Kristina Knott was 12th in the women’s 200m with a time of 23.81 seconds, while Brittny Ellis finished 15th with a time of 23.95 seconds.

Tom Gassner finished 10th in the men’s 800m with a personal-best time of 1:51.58 that moved him into fourth place in UM history.

The men’s 4x400m relay team of Henri Delauze, Jaalen Jones, Ibrahim Dodo and McKinly Brown finished seventh with a season-best time of 3:12.10 that ranks third in UM history.

Anna Runia, Samantha Gonzalez, Anthonia Moore and Amy Taintor combined to finish ninth in the women’s 4x400m relay with a time of 3:44.05.

The Canes also had several competitors in action in the throws and jumps on the last day of the Tiger Paw Invitational.

Daniel Polinski was ninth in the men’s shot put with a throw of 16.74m, while Sherry Lubin was 11th in the women’s shot put (13.59m) and Michelle Atherley placed 13th with a personal-best throw of 12.30m.

Tristan Schultheis was sixth in the men’s high jump with a collegiate-best mark of 2.05m, While Celine Thompson finished eighth in the women’s high jump with a personal-best mark of 1.65m. 

Emily and Amanda Gale tied for sixth in the women’s pole vault with marks of 3.80m.

Following this weekend’s trip to Clemson, the Hurricanes will return to South Bend, Ind., for the 2017 ACC Indoor Championships. Miami’s women will look to defend their 2016 ACC team championship, while the men hope to build off their best team score since joining the ACC in 2004-05.
