@CanesTrack Excels at LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Miami track and field program wrapped up its final meet before the championship season Saturday, competing at the LSU Invitational.

The Hurricanes had several student-athletes excel in Baton Rouge on Saturday, competing against some of the top talent in the SEC.

Shakima Wimbley finished second in the women’s 200m with a season-best time of 23.06 seconds.

Ebony Morrison finished third in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 13.11 seconds, while Jamika Glades (13.51) and Stefani Kerrison (13.63) finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Glades also finished ninth in the women’s 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 58.80 seconds.

Gabrielle Hesslau won the women’s 5000m with a personal-best time of 17.21.77 that ranks fourth in UM history. Sean Grossman finished sixth with a time of 15:24.51 in the men’s 5000m.

Brittny Ellis ran a season-best time of 55.10 seconds to place 16th in the women’s 400m.

The women’s 4x100m relay of Shakima Wimbley, Carolyn Brown, Aiyanna Stiverne and Trishelle Leacock combined to post a time of 45.20 seconds.

The Hurricanes placed fourth in the men’s 4x400m relay as Henri Delauze, Ibrahim Dodo, Breon Mullings and Joseph Ryan teamed up to run a time of 3:09.96. Miami finished eighth in the women’s 4x400m relay as Ellis, Destiny Washington, Anna Runia and Erin Ford combined for a time of 3:46.02.

The Hurricanes saw another school record fall this weekend as Isaiish Simmons improved on his UM-best mark in the shot put.

Simmons won the men’s shot put with a school record mark of 19.11m. Gian Piero Ragonesi finished second with a throw of 18.37m and Daniel Polinski was ninth with a mark of 16.67m. Ragonesi led a trio of Hurricanes in the men’s discus, finishing seventh with a throw of 52.66m. Simmons was eighth (52.02m), while Polinski finished ninth (50.40m).

Alysha Newman finished second in the women’s pole vault with a mark of 4.50m. Amanda Gale was 10th with a personal-best mark of 3.91m to move to second in UM history, while Emily Gale finished 12th with a personal-best mark of 3.91m that ties for second in school history.

Precious Ogunleye finished sixth in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 59.08m. Carlos Mangum finished seventh in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 63.40m

John-Patrick Friday finished third in the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.29m, while Innocent Jacob placed fourth with a mark of 7.29m. Friday also finished fourth in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 15.40m.

Dakota Dailey-Harris placed fifth in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.69m.

Tiffany Okieme finished fourth in the women’s shot put with a season-best throw of 15.83m, while Ogunleye was sixth with a season-best mark of 14.31m.
