Lohan Earns First ACC Player of the Week Honor
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore Sinead Lohan of the University of Miami women’s tennis team was announced Tuesday as the ACC Player of the Week.
This is the fourth time in five weeks this March that a Hurricane received the accolade, with the one exception being a week Miami did not compete. It is also the first-career ACC weekly honor for Lohan, who shared the award with Georgia Tech’s Johnnise Renaud.
“Lohan is so deserving of this and it’s nice to see the conference notice how special this kid is,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “Relentless is the best word to describe this one. We are so looking forward to a bright career from her.”
Lohan helped lead seventh-ranked Miami (12-4, 7-2 ACC) to a pair of victories over ranked opponents last week, posting straight-set singles wins in both matches.
The Waterford, Ireland, native beat her highest-ranked opponent of the spring, No. 16 Julia Elbaba, as Miami topped No. 12 Virginia, 5-2. Lohan also defeated No. 113 Lexi Borr of then-No. 53 Boston College in a 7-0 victory for the Hurricanes. She earned a victory in her lone completed doubles match of the week, teaming with freshman Ana Madcur for a 6-1 win over Elbaba and Cassie Mercer.
Lohan is 15-1 in singles matches in 2016, including a 13-1 mark in dual match play. She has a 9-1 record against ranked players and is an unblemished 8-0 in ACC competition. Lohan is also 12-5 in doubles action, including a team-best 6-1 in conference play.
Miami will be back in action Saturday at 12 p.m. when it opens the month of April on the road at No. 29 Clemson.
