CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami soccer team signed six high schoolers to National Letters of Intent, head coach Mary-Frances Monroe announced Thursday.

The group includes a pair of south Floridians in Dejah Cason of Hollywood, Fla., and Alexis Castellano of Boca Raton, Fla., in a class that ranges from coast to coast across the United States.

The Hurricanes also signed Bayleigh Chaviers of Stephenville, Texas, Madison Louk of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Lauren Markwith of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Hannah Marwede of Lake Forest, Ill. The six newcomers join Kristina Fisher of Jupiter, Fla., who inked with Miami in August and enrolled in January.

The seven-member 2016 class features three forwards, two midfielders and two defenders.

Cason, a 5-foot-3-inch forward out of American Heritage (Fla.) High School, was named a Sun Sentinel Class 1A-2A-3A First Team All-Broward County selection as both a sophomore and a junior.

“Dejah is small, but feisty,” Monroe said. “She is a competitor and wants to win. I am excited to see what she does in front of goal this fall.”

The 5-foot-5-inch Castellano, a midfielder from St. Andrew’s (Fla.) School, has been invited to multiple U.S. Soccer Training Centers in Florida, as well as to play with the ODP Region III Team in the Netherlands.

“Lexi is a very crafty player,” Monroe said. “She is very good with the ball at her feet and is super deceptive.”

Chaviers, a 5-foot-7-inch forward who attends Stephenville (Texas) High School, is a two-time 800-meter dash state champion and her club team finished second in ECNL Nationals in 2014.

“Bayleigh is a quiet player, but she knows how to get her job done,” Monroe said. “She will add depth to our wide, attacking personalities.”

Louk, a 5-foot-5-inch defender from Siegel (Tenn.) High School, was the Defensive MVP of the Tennessee East-West All-Star Game and also made the 2015 Girl’s High School All-American Game.

“Madison will add speed to our backline,” Monroe said. “She loves to tackle and get forward. We are excited to see her compete this fall.”

The 5-foot-7-inch Markwith, a midfielder who attends Mater Dei Catholic (Calif.) High School, is a Guatemalan Women’s National Team member who was both the Trinity League Offensive MVP and an All-CIF South Sectional First Team pick in 2015. She is a four-star recruit, per Top Drawer Soccer.

“Lauren comes from a great club, the SoCal Blues,” Monroe said. “We are excited to see her attacking personality on the field in the fall. She is a competitor and wants to score.”

Marwede, a 6-foot defender out of Lake Forest (Ill.) High School, is a two-time ECNL club national champion and was twice named to the Best 11 from the ECNL National Finals. Top Drawer Soccer ranks her as a four-star recruit.

“Hannah will add depth to our backline,” Monroe said. “She has great height and is very strong. She also comes from a top club in the country, the Eclipse.”
