@MiamiTrack Announces 2016 Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem announced the University of Miami 2016 track and field schedule.

The Hurricanes’ schedule is highlighted by the return to New York for the Armory Track Invitational and the 89th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, as well as appearances at the ACC and NCAA Championships for both indoor and outdoor track and field.

“The 2016 season will feature a competitive schedule that allows our student-athletes to compete with the nation’s best each weekend,” Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem said.

Miami’s indoor season kicks off Jan. 16 as the Canes travel to State College, Pa., to participate in the Nittany Lion Challenge.

The Hurricanes will also compete at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet (Jan. 22-23), Armory Track Invitational (Feb. 5-6), the Tyson Invitational (Feb. 12 -13) and the LSU High Performance Meet (Feb. 13) in preparation for the ACC Championships in Boston from Feb. 25-27.  Two weeks later, the Canes will be in Birmingham, Ala., for the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships.

“We are excited to return to New York and compete at the Armory,” Deem said. “The meet always produces great performances and an electric atmosphere.”

Miami opens its outdoor season with the first of three home meets, hosting the Hurricane Invitational from March 18-19. The following week, Miami will host the Hurricane Twilight meet on March 25.

“Having our first two outdoor competitions at home will provide our team an opportunity to compete in front of our Hurricanes fans,” Deem said. “It will also provide great preparation for Texas Relays and the remaining outdoor meets.”

They will also host the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 8-9, a meet that Deem always enjoys to host because it brings together Canes of past and present.

“The Hurricane Alumni Invitational is always a special meet for myself and the program,” Deem said. “Not only is it a competitive meet, but it’s an opportunity to reconnect with the alumni that return to campus.”

The Canes are slated to compete at the 77th Florida Relays and the 89th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays from March 30-April 2. They will return to Gainesville, Fla., on April 22 for the Tom Jones Invitational and have a trip to Baton Rouge, La., on April 30 for the LSU Invitational as they prepare for the conference and NCAA meets.

Miami will converge on Tallahassee, Fla., to compete against its fellow ACC member schools at the 2016 ACC Outdoor Championships from May 13-15, where 2015 ACC Women’s Outdoor Track MVP Shakima Wimbley will look to defend her 200m and 400m conference titles.

Two weeks after ACCs, the Canes will compete at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla., from May 26-28. The top Miami performers will look to advance to the NCAA Championships, held in Eugene, Ore., from June 8-11.
