MBB to Face Nebraska in ACC/Big 10 Challenge

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team will travel to Pinnacle Bank Arena to face Nebraska as part of the 17th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, ESPN announced Wednesday.

Since joining the league for the 2004-05 season, the Canes have played in eight of the 11 Challenges. Overall, Miami is 3-5 in the Challenge, with a 3-1 record at home and 0-4 mark on the road.

The trip to Lincoln will mark Miami’s third-ever visit and second as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge; Miami fell to Nebraska at Pinnacle Bank Arena 60-49 in 2013.

In Larrañaga’s four seasons at Miami, the Canes defeated No. 13/14 Michigan State in 2012 and No. 15/15 Illinois in 2014, and traveled to Purdue (2011) and Nebraska (2013) as part of the Challenge. UM’s first victory in the event was against Minnesota in 2009.

The 17th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, played over three days from November 30 – December 2, is highlighted by three Final Four participants: national champion Duke, Wisconsin and Michigan State.

This year’s game against Nebraska will be played on Tues., Dec. 1.

ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all 14 games of the three-day event matching top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioners Cup. All 14 games will also be available via WatchESPN.

The Big Ten captured the Commissioner’s Cup last season, winning eight of the 14 matchups. The two conferences split the previous two events, winning six Challenge games each in 2012 and 2013. The ACC won the first 10 Challenges (1999-2008) while the Big Ten won the next three (2009-2011). In the event of a tie, the Commissioner’s Cup remains with the conference that won the previous year.
