Giants Draft Flowers in First Round

CHICAGO – Miami Hurricanes offensive lineman Ereck Flowers was selected with the ninth overall draft pick by the New York Giants on Thursday night of the 2015 NFL Draft.

The Miami, Fla. native is the first Hurricane to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft since Kenny Phillips was taken with the 31st overall pick by the New York Giants in 2008 – Flowers’ current team.

He also becomes the first Hurricane to be selected in the top 10 of the NFL Draft since Antrel Rolle was taken eighth overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2005.

He also becomes the 27th Miami player selected in the first round since 2000. Miami’s 27 first round selections since 2000 are the most among all NCAA teams.

Flowers concluded his Miami career after he earned All-ACC Second Team honors as a junior. In 2014, he helped anchor an offensive line that paved the way for the Hurricanes to average 430.3 yards of total offense per game. In addition, Miami averaged 180.4 yards rushing per game.

Flowers also showed a high level of toughness as he played in 12 of the Hurricanes’ 13 games this past season.
