@HurricanesGolf To Play In Windy City Classic
WILMETTE, Ill. – The University of Miami golf team returns to the course on Monday, Oct. 6, to participate in the Windy City Collegiate Classic.
Northwestern University will be hosting the tournament at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill. The Hurricanes will be part of a 15-team field, six of which are ranked in the top 50, including Miami at No. 44. Reigning NCAA champions USC will also be participating.
Miami is coming off of a fifth-place performance at the East & West Match Play Challenge. Sophomore Delfina Acosta paced the Canes to their fifth-place finish, ending stroke play tied for seventh place.
Head coach Patti Rizzo was not surprised with Acosta’s performance after the extra work the Argentine native put in during the offseason. Rizzo anticipates another great tournament from her.
“She went home over the summer and worked with her teacher and she just looks really strong this year,” Rizzo said. “I think everything with her is great: her swing, her set up, her putting stroke. It’s all there and she already has that feisty fight. I think she’s going to have a great week.”
Rizzo is excited for her team’s opportunity to be able play against top-ranked opponents so early in the season.
“We like playing against a strong field because if you do not finish in the top two or three, you still already beat a lot of teams ranked ahead of you,” Rizzo explained.
Miami’s lineup will consist of Leticia Ras-Anderica, Daniela Darquea, Delfina Acosta, Kailey Walsh and Christina Ocampo.
Tournament play commences with the first 36 holes being played on Monday and the final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday.
