Lecomte Continues Play in U20 Championships

Miami Hurricane Manu Lecomte is leading the Belgian team with 15.8 points per game through four outings in the FIBA U20 European Championships held in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina.

After four games, Lecomte is averaging 15.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 28.5 minutes of play. He is hitting 53.3 percent of this two-point buckets and 90.5 percent of his free throws.

Lecomte is currently eighth in the tournament in points per game (15.8) and third in free throw percentage (90.5%).

In his first game of the championships, Lecomte led Belgium with 10 points and six rebounds in 30 minutes in the team’s 71-50 loss to host, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In his second game, against Luxembourg, he posted a team-high 28 points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes in the team’s 100-58 win. He was 9-15 from the field and 4-6 from long distance in the game, while dishing four assists and swiping three steals.

In Belgium’s win versus Cyprus on July 14, Lecomte put up a team-high 15 points and notched a team-best four assists. The Hurricane sophomore recorded 10 points, five rebounds and three assists in the team’s 75-37 win over Romania.

Lecomte has been part of Belgium’s national team program for most of the past decade. He was a member of the U16 team for two years, the U18 team for two years and is in his second year with the U20 squad.

Lecomte and the Belgian team continue play in the championships on July 16, facing Estonia.

The U20 European Championships for Division B is a 14-team tournament that is held in Sarajevo, Bosnia from July 10-20. Lecomte will captain a Belgian squad that is hungry to move into the top division in Europe. Belgium is one of seven teams in Group A, joined by Luxembourg, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Poland and Estonia.

As a freshman in 2013-14, Lecomte was an exciting player for the Hurricanes. He was third on the team with 7.7 ppg and ranked second in assists (77) and third in steals (21), while playing in all 32 games and making 16 starts.
