Four Golfers Named to All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four Miami Hurricanes are among the 30 student-athletes named to the 2014 All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team, announced Friday by the conference office.

Junior Leticia Ras-Anderica (painting), sophomore Kailey Walsh (communication studies), and freshmen Delfina Acosta (sport administration) and Daniela Darquea (undeclared arts & sciences) earned academic honors.

Darquea, who led the Canes with a 73.00 scoring average in 29 rounds, is one of six golfers who earned All-ACC honors and secured spots on the academic honors team. She’s joined by NC State’s Brittany Marchand, Clemson’s Sloan Shanahan, Duke’s Laetitia Beck and Celine Boutier and Florida State’s Alex Milan.

Acosta and Walsh also started all 10 tournaments for the Hurricanes, finishing third (75.10) and fourth (75.24), respectively, in scoring average. Ras-Anderica started the season’s first eight tournaments before being sidelined by injury. She ranked second behind Darquea in scoring average (73.91), as well as Top 10 (3) and Top 25 (5) finishes.

All 11 ACC schools that compete in women’s golf are represented on this year’s academic team. Miami is one of four schools with a league-leading four honorees (Duke, Notre Dame and Wake Forest). Clemson, Florida State claimed three players apiece while Boston College, North Carolina and NC State each placed two players. Maryland and Virginia landed one player each to complete the team.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
