Albuquerque & Riobueno Will Face Alabama Duo
ATHENS, Ga. – In Saturday’s NCAA Doubles Quarterfinals match, Miami’s 8th-ranked Monique Albuquerque and Clementina Riobueno will face 5th-ranked Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe of Alabama.
The Alabama pair advanced to the Elite Eight after beating Georgia State’s 25th-ranked Abigail Tere-Apisah and Masa Grgan 6-3, 6-3, while Albuquerque and Riobueno moved on after putting away 10th-ranked Kristie Ahn and Carol Zhao of Stanford in straight sets.
The Miami Round of 16 win marked their third against a Top 25 opponent in the last three matches, and second against a Top 10 opponent. On the season, Albuquerque and Riobueno are 22-3 three on the season with eight wins against ranked opponents.
As Alabama’s top doubles team all season, Jansen and Routliffe 17-4 overall record with 11 wins against nationally ranked opponents. Before beating the Georgia State duo in the Round of 16, they posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Southern California’s 11th-ranked team of Giuliana Olmos and Zoë Scandalis.
