SAN DIEGO — The University of Miami rowing program picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes on Day 1 at the 2014 San Diego Crew Classic.

The Canes placed fourth in both the Women’s Collegiate Invitational division and the Women’s Collegiate 2V division. The San Diego Crew Classic is run on a 2000m course on San Diego’s Mission Bay.

“We had some good racing today,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “Both of our crews executed their plans to the best of their ability and more importantly, learned from the racing. We are looking forward to racing again Sunday and continuing our development and evolution as a team.”

Miami’s 1V8+ finished fourth in Heat A of the Women’s Collegiate Invitational division. The Canes completed the course in 6:53.217, finishing behind USC, Washington State and Wisconsin. Miami beat the University of Texas boat by four seconds to secure its fourth place finish.

The Hurricanes also finished fourth in Heat A of the Women’s Collegiate 2V division. A three-heat division, Miami finished behind USC, Wisconsin and Iowa with a time of 6:51.446.
