Larra'aga Honored with Cuban YUCA Award

The Cuban connection continues for Miami Hurricanes basketball coach Jim Larrañaga.

At an on-campus event hosted by the University of Miami’s Federación de Estudiantes Cubanos (FEC, or Federation of Cuban Students), Coach Larrañaga will receive FEC’s “YUCA” Award.

The YUCA (Young Urban Cuban American) Award strives to recognize outstanding Cuban leaders within the University community and beyond; leaders who take their time every day to do something spectacular and out of the ordinary for their community, and for a cause. Previous YUCA Award recipients include Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and salsa singer Willy Chirino.

Every year, FEC promotes many aspects of the rich Cuban culture to the university community and the community at large through “A Week of Cuban Culture.” As FEC’s largest event, the weeklong programming showcases the Cuban culture through food, art, music and more.

Coach Larrañaga will receive his award on Wednesday, March 5 at the “Domino ef-FEC-t” event, a friendly domino tournament held at UM’s Student Activities Center Moss Terrace.
