@MiamiTrack Signs Six Future Canes

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three men and three women signed National Letters of Intent to join the University of Miami track and field program.

Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem is excited about the newest additions to her program.

“I am very excited about what this signing class brings to our program,” Deem said. “They are a very talented group of student-athletes that will help us be a better team at the conference and national level. Our entire staff welcomes them to the Hurricane family.”

Henri Delauze, Sprints (Freeport, Bahamas/Bishop Michael Eldon School)

Delauze is a talented Bahamian sprinter who was a 2013 CARIFTA Under-17 400m finalist and 4x400m gold medalist. In 2013, Delauze became the Island Sports Champion and Record-Holder, and High school National Champion and Record-Holder (under 17 – 48.53sec). Delauze was also a member of two junior national teams, representing the Bahamas at CARIFTA and the World Youth Championships. He has a personal best of 47.85 in the 400m.

Robert Grant, Hurdles/Sprints (Phoenix, Ari./Brophy College Prep)

Grant was the 2013 state runner-up in the 300m with a time of 36.88, second-fastest in Arizona history. He earned a silver and two bronze medals while helping Brophy College Prep win the 2013 state championship. Grant, who ran at the IAAF Youth Trials, has personal bests of 14.45 in the 110H, 36.88 in the 300H, 21.42 in the 200m and 48.09 in the 400m.

Jaalen Jones, Sprints (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson)

Jones recently won the boys 60m at the Alabama indoor state championships with a time of 6.89, tying a state record. He also placed third in the 400m at this year’s indoor state championships with a time of 49.13. Jones, who was part of a silver medal sprint medley relay team at the 2013 IAAF World Youth Championships, has personal bests of 6.87 in the 60m, 10.60 in the 100m, and 21.52 in the 200m.

Stefani Kerrison, Hurdles/Multi-Events (Orlando, Fla./Jones)

Kerrison was the 2013 100m hurdles 2A state champion. She also participated in the IAAF World Youth Trials, the USATF Junior Olympics and the AAU Club Nationals. Kerrison was the runner-up in the heptathlon at the USATF Junior Olympics with personal-best 4,749 points. She was also the runner-up in the 300m hurdles and placed fourth in the high jump at the 2013 2A state championships. Kerrison has personal bests of 13.56 in the 100m hurdles, 43.34 in the 300m hurdles, 18’ 7.75” in the long jump and 5’ 4 “ in the high jump.

Amy Taintor, Hurdles/Multi-Events (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith)

Taintor was the 2013 outdoor state champion in both the long jump and 300m hurdles. Described by her high school coach as an athlete that “possesses immense athletic talent and a formidable work ethic,” she first picked up track and field as a freshman in high school and began solely focusing on her running following her sophomore season. Taintor, who competed at the 2012 Indoor New Balance Nationals, has personal bests of 43.36 in the 300m hurdles and 19’ 0.75” in the long jump.

Alexandra Wester, Jumps/Multi-Events (Mainz, Germany/Otto-Schott Gymnasium)

Wester is a talented athlete from Germany, recently placing fifth in the long jump at the 2014 German Halls University Championships. She holds personal-bests of 6.30m in the long jump, 1.72m in the high jump and 5,103 points in the heptathlon.

Delauze, Grant, Jones, Kerrison, Taintor and Wester will all join the Hurricanes for the 2014-15 season.
