#ProCanes Report: McKinney Jones on a Tear
Since the start of 2014, Trey McKinney Jones has been on a tear, and has totaled double digit points in all but one game since the beginning of the new year. This season, with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, McKinney Jones is averaging 17.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
NBA
James Jones – Miami Heat – Jones remains in his 3-point specialist role, he has delivered when needed, shooting a scorching 55 percent from beyond the arc this season. With a loaded Heat rotation, the former NBA 3-point champion remains poised and ready. He recently attended a Hurricanes game with HEAT teammates, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Shane Battier.
Shane Larkin – Dallas Mavericks – Even with the return of veteran point guard Devin Harris, Larkin has made a case for an increase in minutes with performances such as his 18 point, 5 assist game against the Suns. When starter Jose Calderon was forced out of action with a knee injury, Larkin’s number was called and he has responded with stellar play.
John Salmons – Toronto Raptors – Salmons has provided the Raptors with a strong veteran presence, as well as a reliable option off the bench. Since the start of the new year, Salmons’ point totals have begun to increase, as he totals 23 minutes per game, about 6.2 points per game, and about 2.4 assists per game.
D-League
Will Frisby – Fort Wayne Mad Ants – Frisby has made efficient use of his playing time for the Mad Ants, shooting over 50 percent from the field and displaying a willingness to fight for offensive rebounds. This has led to an increase in minutes that has continued throughout the new year.
Robert Hite – Canton Charge – Hite’s playing time has increased considerably over the past week, averaging 33 minutes per game in his last two contests, and breaking into the starting lineup for Canton’s game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants against fellow alumni Will Frisby and Trey McKinney Jones.
Lance Hurdle – Springfield Armor – While the Armor have struggled this season, Hurdle has reached double figure point totals twice during the new year while manning the guard spot for Springfield.
DeQuan Jones – Reno Bighorns – Jones has been a key contributor for Reno this season, starting over half of the team’s games and shooting over 40 percent from 3-point range. He has eclipsed the double digit mark in his last three games, and is averaging 12.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest.
Trey McKinney Jones – Fort Wayne Mad Ants – Since the start of 2014, McKinney Jones has been on a tear. With double digit point totals in all but one game since the beginning of January, McKinney Jones has found himself among the scoring leaders for a Fort Wayne team that is second in the East Division. He has averaged 18.3 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game throuhgout the entire month of January.
Kenny Kadji – Rio Grande Valley Vipers – Kadji has played in four games for the Vipers since making the move over from Germany. Kadji’s contributions include 10.8 minutes per game and 2.3 rebounds per game. He has put up six points in each of the last two contests.
Overseas
Brian Asbury – Hapoel Holon (Israel) – Asbury is a key contributor for Holon, leading the team in both minutes and points per game. He has continued his strong play in 2014, scoring in double figures in his last three games.
Julian Gamble – St. Vallier Basket Drome (France) – As a key member of St. Vallier’s starting five, Gamble has been one of the team’s most efficient players, shooting a scorching 59 percent from the field. Gamble has hit or surpassed the 20 point mark in three of his last four games since the start of the new year.
Malcolm Grant – LF Basket Norrbotten (Sweden) – After opening the year strongly with double figure point totals in his first four games for the Halifax Rainmen (Canada), Grant signed with LF Basket at the end of January. He has yet to play a game with his new team.
Anthony King – Artland Dragons (Germany) – King has proven to be a valuable piece of the Dragons this season, as he is among the team’s leaders in minutes, points, and rebounds. He recently netted a double-double in what ended as a close overtime loss to the NY Phantoms.
Durand Scott – Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro CAB (Spain) – Scott has proved himself as a pivotal sixth man for Rio Natura Monbus. He has played in 17 games since the start of the season, and earns an average of 12.8 minutes per game. His best game of the new year came against Universidad Catolica de Murcia. In only 17 minutes of play, he totaled 15 points, four rebounds, and one assist.
Adrian Thomas – Shimane Susanoo Magic (Japan) – Thomas has contributed in 28 games this season, and contributed in seven games since the start of the new year. In 2014, he has averaged 23.7 minutes per game, 9.9 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game.
Free Agency
Reggie Johnson – After being waived by the Delaware 87ers of the NBA D-League at the beginning of the year, Johnson is still looking for his next team.
