@MiamiTrack Finishes Strong At McCravy Meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Miami track and field program had another solid showing on the final day of the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet.

“A very solid performance for us this weekend,” Miami director of track & field/cross country Amy Deem said. “We had an opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the country and our kids showed they belong.”

The women’s 4x400m relay teams shined against some of the top programs in the country, earning a pair of Top 10 finishes. Jamika Glades, Taneisha Cordell, Kelsey Balkwill and Shakima Wimbley placed third, finishing in 3:35.58, while Shannon Wright, Anthonia Moore, Alaine Tate and Kayann Richards combined to run the race in 3:51.01, placing ninth.

The quartet of Glades, Cordell, Balkwill and Wimbley currently rank fourth in the NCAA in the women’s 4x400m relay, posting the time in the most competitive 4×400 race of the year as three of the top four times in the country were set at the McCravy meet.

Glades and Richards also excelled in the 60m hurdles. Glades placed fifth overall in the Blue division with a time of 8.46, while Richards finished sixth in the White division with a time of 8.68.

Moore and Tate also made some noise individually. Moore finished second in her heat and 11th overall in the women’s 400m. The freshman posted a personal-best time of 56.29, while Tate placed eighth in the women’s 800m with a time of 2:11.39.

Sprinters Alyssa McClure and Phillip Dorsett earned Top 10 finishes in the 60m. McClure placed sixth in the women’s 60m Blue division with a time of 7.55, while Dorsett finished fifth in the men’s 60m White division with a time of 6.92.

The Canes also had success in the field events as junior Amber Monroe placed fourth in the women’s shot put with a throw of 15.49m. Sophomore Alexis Wright placed ninth in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 11.74m.

Miami will take the next week off from competition, focusing on improving in all aspects before continuing with their outdoor schedule at the VT Elite Meet on Feb. 7-8.

“I am very pleased with our first two meets and I am looking forward to getting back to work to prepare for the Virginia Tech Elite Meet in two weeks,” Deem said.
