CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Before the Hurricanes played in-state rival Florida State last night, Miami men’s basketball head coach Jim Larrañaga received a Suncoast Emmy Award at midcourt of the BankUnited Center from Raymond Colaiacovo for his team’s participation in the production of “Hurricane Game Day, Beating Number One.”
The Emmy awards the video as the Best Sports Daily or Weekly Program in the television markets of Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Puerto Rico recognized by the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
The behind-the-scenes feature focused on the Hurricanes’ preparation on game day last season for their Jan. 23 matchup against the No. 1 Duke Blue Devils.
Colaiacovo, along with Jon Arrivo, of Digital Wave Productions, Inc., based in West Palm Beach, Fla., produced and shot the nearly 30-minute production
Many regard the 90-63 victory over Duke as the most significant win in the history of the Miami’s men’s basketball program. The win propelled the Hurricanes to a historic season, culminating with a regular season ACC title, winning the ACC tournament, and a berth in the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament.
