Johnson Named ACC Offensive Back of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami Hurricanes sophomore RB Duke Johnson was named Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Back of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is Johnson’s second weekly award of the season and seventh of his career.

Johnson is the first Miami player to win an ACC weekly offensive honor this season and is one of two players to win multiple weekly honors in 2013.

It is Johnson’s career-first ACC Offensive Back of the Week honor. As a freshman in 2012, he was a five-time ACC Rookie of the Week honoree. He was named ACC Specialist of the Week earlier this month.

The Miami native rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns on a career-high 30 carries in Miami’s 24-21 come-from-behind victory over Wake Forest. Both of Johnson’s touchdowns came in the fourth quarter. Johnson’s first score was a 4-yard run that gave Miami its first lead at 17-14 with 5:36 left in the fourth quarter. After Wake Forest retook the lead, Johnson found the end zone for a second time on a 1-yard score to put Miami up 24-21 with 53 seconds remaining.

His 168-yard outburst against the Demon Deacons was Johnson’s third 100-yard game of season and the seventh of his career. Johnson had 83 yards in the first three quarters on Saturday, before rushing for 85 yards in the fourth quarter alone. Johnson has 823 rushing yards and six touchdowns this season, averaging 117.6 rushing yards per game. He has amassed 1,280 all-purpose yards (182.9 ypg) in 19 career games.

No. 7 Miami (7-0, 3-0 ACC) takes its nine-game winning streak to Tallahassee to face No. 3 Florida State (7-0, 5-0 ACC) for yet another Top 10 showdown in the epic rivalry. Saturday’s game will kick at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and will be the feature site for College GameDay Built by the Home Depot.
