@MiamiTrack Announces 2014 Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem announced the University of Miami’s 2014 track and field schedule.

The Hurricanes’ schedule is highlighted by three home meets during the outdoor season and appearances at the ACC and NCAA Championships for both indoor and outdoor track and field.

“I think that we put together a highly competitive schedule that will give our athletes the opportunity to compete against the best in the country,” Deem said.

Miami’s indoor season kicks off on Jan. 18 as the Canes travel to State College, Pa., to participate in the Nittany Lion Challenge.

The Hurricanes will also compete at the Rod McCravy Memorial (Jan. 24-25), Virginia Tech Elite (Feb. 7-8) and the Don Kirby Elite Invitational (Feb. 14-15) in preparation for the ACC Championships in Clemson, S.C., from Feb. 27 to March 1. Two weeks later, the Canes will be in Albuquerque, N.M., for the NCAA Indoor Championships.

“This year’s indoor schedule presents some strong challenges that will provide our athletes the chance to be battle tested going into the championship season,” Deem said.

Miami opens its outdoor season with the first of three home meets, hosting the Hurricane Invitational from on March 21-22. They will also host the Miami Invitational on March 29 and the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 12.

“It is always great to compete in front of our home crowd,” Deem said. “Having three home meets gives us an opportunity to showcase not only our team, but also bring quality track and field meets to the university campus and South Florida community.”

The Canes will also compete in several of the top meets around the country including the Florida Relays (April 4-5), the largest track meet in the State of Florida. Miami will also travel to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU meet (May 2-3) that will feature some of the top-ranked teams in the country.

About a month into the outdoor season, Miami will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the ACC Outdoor Championships. A month later, the Canes hope to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 29-31. The top Miami performers will look to advance to the NCAA Championships, help in Eugene, Ore., from June 11-14.
