Suarez to Compete in First Fall Event
AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. –University of Miami women’s tennis player Deborah Suarez will compete in her first tournament of the fall at the $10,000 Amelia Island tournament, beginning Sunday.
“This is a great opportunity for Deborah to go out there and keep developing her game through competitive matches, which is what creates a good base in the fall,” assistant coach Laura Vallverdu said. “Deborah has been working hard, and I am excited to see her go out there to compete.”
Suarez, a sophomore from Weston, Fla., will begin the tournament in the singles qualifying round on Sunday against Sarah Baron.
As a freshman for the Hurricanes in 2012-13, Suarez went 11-2 in singles play. Two of those wins came against Nicole Lipp of then 9th-ranked Duke and Kristina Schleich of then 25th-ranked Florida State.
