Athletes In Action Finish 3-0 In Kingston
KINGSTON, Ja. — For the third time in three days, Athletes in Action overwhelmed and outperformed its opponent, beating the Jamaica Professional Basketball League All-Stars 88-56. The victory gives AIA a 3-0 record on their current Jamaican tour.
The first few minutes of the first quarter proved to be contentious for Athletes in Action, but a run to end the first quarter gave them a comfortable cushion. At the half, AIA controlled every aspect of the game, building a 25-point lead.
Liberty University senior forward Antwan Burrus, who scored 16 points on 7-12 shooting, paced the scoring. University of Virginia sophomore Anthony Gill added 14 points to go with his five rebounds.
Miami senior Raphael Akpejiori flooded the stat sheet with contributions in a multitude of areas. Aside from his nine points and five rebounds, Akpejiori also added three assists and two steals while shooting 50 percent from the field. Akpejiori shot an effective 56 percent from the field during the three games.
Following the three-game sweep in Kingston, Athletes in Action will travel 110 miles across the island to Montego Bay. AIA will face the Jamaican Senior National Team in a two-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
