Jamaican National Team Adds Scott to Roster

Durand Scott will embark on a new journey Thursday, representing the Jamaican National Basketball Team in the 2013 Jack Donohue International Classic against Team Canada at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.

Team Jamaica will face off against Canada in a two-game friendly on August 8 and August 10, helping prepare the squads for this September’s FIBA America’s Championship for Men in Venezuela. Support for the exhibitions has been strong, as both games in the former Maple Leaf Gardens have been sold out.

Scott’s team, named the JamRockerZ, will include some of the world’s premiere Jamaican basketball players, including former Cleveland Cavalier and Euro league bound Samardo Samuels. Former NBA player and Charlotte Bobcats head coach Sam Vincent will lead the team.

Following the games in Toronto, Team Jamaica is scheduled to hold camp in Montego Bay before leaving for the Americas Tournament in Venezuela. This year, 10 teams will compete for the right to represent their country at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. Jamaica will play in Group A with Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Canada. The Jamaican team qualified for the Americas tournament after finishing third at last year’s Centro-Basket tournament in Puerto Rico.

The top four teams at the Americas tournament will advance to the 2014 FIBA World Basketball Championships in France.
