MBB: Scott Shines, Spurs Win
The Summer League has become more of an audition than a chance to refine skills. Friday night, Durand Scott made sure he was getting a call back.
In more than double the amount of playing time, Scott proved why he was such a vital asset to the 2013 Canes Sweet 16 squad. The New York product shined, scoring 11 points and doling out two assists. He also grabbed two rebounds in 24 minutes of play.
For Scott, the increase in minutes led to his most productive offensive output this summer. The Spurs beat Milwaukee 90-80, but Scott’s performance may have overshadowed the outcome.
Fighting for an NBA roster spot, Scott has remained persistent through the process. Working his way up from an initial two minutes of action in his first game, Scott seized the opportunity.
The summer league is over for the Spurs and without a guaranteed contract, Scott will again have to be patient. Much like Friday’s outburst, though, good things come to those who wait.
