UM Track Alums Succeed at U.S. Championships
DES MOINES, Iowa – Two University of Miami track and field alumni advanced to the semi-final round at the U.S. Track and Field Championships.
T’erea Brown ran the second-best time in the women’s 400m hurdles, finishing in 55.37 seconds, to advance to Saturday’s semi-final. Dominique Darden also advanced, finishing her race in 56.95 seconds to place 11th overall. The semi-final round is scheduled to begin at 4:03 p.m. EST Saturday.
Lauryn Williams ran the seventh-fastest 100m time in the women’s semifinal Friday, finishing the race in 11 seconds. But the Olympic Gold Medalist placed fifth in her heat and did not advance, despite having a faster time than two competitors from the other heat.
Williams announced her retirement from the 100m dash following the completion of the event. The three-time Olympian will run in the first round of the women’s 200m dash Saturday at 4:35 p.m. EST.
One day after running the fastest time in the men’s 400m hurdles (49.46), Johnny Dutch posted the fourth-best time in the event during the semi-final round. Dutch, who trains with Miami director of track and field and cross country Amy Deem, improved from Thursday’s preliminary, running a 48.98.
Former Hurricanes All-American Devon Hill is among the competitors in the men’s 110m hurdles. Hill, who was the ACC Indoor Champion in the 60m hurdles in 2011, currently has the 11th-fastest time in the country in the 110m hurdles at 13.38 seconds. The men’s 110m hurdles is scheduled to begin a 4:10 p.m. EST on Saturday.
