Larra'aga Adds McClellan to MBB Roster

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team has added University of Texas transfer Sheldon McClellan, head coach Jim Larrañaga announced Tuesday.

“We’re extremely happy to add Sheldon McClellan to our program,” Larrañaga said. “He is an outstanding shooter, scorer and athlete.”

McClellan joins the Canes after playing his first two collegiate seasons with the Longhorns. A native of Houston, McClellan averaged 13.5 points and 3.9 rebounds as a sophomore in 34 games, making 15 starts for the Longhorns.  The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds as a freshman.

“Sheldon is a great compliment to recent signee Angel Rodriguez,” Larrañaga said. “These two will sit out and be prepared to play in the 2014-15 season, joining Tonye Jekiri’s class, which will give us three juniors a year from now. This will balance our classes and will give us upperclassmen with lots of experience.”

A standout at Houston’s Bellaire High School, McClellan was ranked as the No. 47 prospect nationally in the ESPNU 100 and the No. 60 prospect by Rivals.com following his senior season.

McClellan is the third transfer to join the program this off-season, joining Angel Rodriguez (Kansas State) and Donnavan Kirk (DePaul). The trio joins a list of newcomers to the Miami program, including Deandre Burnett, James Kelly, Manu Lecomte and Davon Reed.
