Felde Joins Strength & Conditioning Staff
The University of Miami has announced the hiring of Steve Felde as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, focusing on Canes men’s basketball and women’s soccer.
“We’re very excited to add Steve Felde to our basketball coaching staff,” said Coach Jim Larrañaga. “Steve comes very highly recommended by Tubby Smith and the basketball coaches at Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Steve is a high energy guy with a great background in strength and conditioning for men’s basketball teams. He replaces Jim Krumpos who did an outstanding job for us. Steve has the same philosophy as Coach Krumpos, which will be to allow our players the consistency and continuity we are looking for with our program.”
Felde (pronounced Fel-dee) comes to Miami after a year at Minnesota where he was the assistant director of strength and conditioning for the Gophers, who played in the third round of the 2013 NCAA men’s basketball tournament. In that position he oversaw all aspects of men’s basketball weight lifting, plyometric and conditioning programs. He also monitored nutritional needs for basketball student-athletes and implemented strength programs for men’s and women’s hockey, men’s swimming and men’s golf.
Prior to his time in Minneapolis, Felde was the director of strength and conditioning at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee from 2007-12. While there, he oversaw strength and conditioning programs for 13 NCAA Division I sports including baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, track and field, men’s and women’s swim/dive, tennis, cross country and volleyball. He contributed to 34 Horizon League Championships in a variety of sports and helped the women’s soccer team to two consecutive years in the national rankings. The men’s basketball team saw marked progress in their overall record under Felde’s programs, as did the volleyball and baseball teams.
He also spent time with Minnesota in 2005 as an assistant strength coach, training student-athletes in Olympic lifting techniques and implementing strength and speed development programs for 25 teams.
Felde earned his B.S. in athletic training and exercise leadership from Concordia University of Wisconsin in May of 2003. As an undergrad, he worked as both an athletic trainer – working with football and wrestling – and strength and conditioning coach – for the men’s basketball and men’s soccer teams – for the Falcons.
He is certified through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) and has been a certified club coach for USA Weightlifting since 2004. In 2010, Felde obtained a master’s of sport science from the United States Sports Academy.
Felde, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., is married to the former Wendie Parchim.
