No. 53 Golf Returns for Sir Pizza Challenge

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – After two solid performances already this month, the 53rd-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team returns to action for the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge.

The tournament, hosted by the University of Maryland, will be held Feb. 25-26 at the 6,386-yard, par-72 Senator Course at Don Shula’s Hotel and Golf Club. Miami will face a 16-team field that includes fellow ACC rivals Maryland and NC State as well as FIU and future ACC member Louisville.

Other schools converging on Miami Lakes will be Arkansas State, Cincinnati, East Tennessee State, Illinois State, Jacksonville, Kansas, Memphis, Mercer, Missouri, UMKC and Xavier. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstatresults.com.

Sophomores Leticia Ras-Anderica and Rika Park will anchor Miami’s lineup at the Terrapin Challenge. Ras-Anderica has led the Canes with a 72.63 scoring average over her last three events, while UM has posted three consecutive Top 5 finishes, elavating 21 spots in the Golfstat rankings.

“I think the difference has been that this spring we’ve had more productive practices,” Ras-Anderica said. “During the fall we worked a lot on fitness and in the spring we’ve been working more on our golf game, and now it’s beginning to all come together.”

In addition to Ras-Anderica and Park, freshmen Christina Ocampo and Laura Hendee and junior Carina Cuculiza will also be in the Canes lineup. Sophomore Audrey Monssoh and freshman Lauren Riehle will play as individuals.

Following the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge, the Miami women’s golf team will conclude its five-tournament Sunshine State swing March 15-17 with the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
